What I do best is make a song bloom in a 3D immersive space. It's simply magic.

Mixing your songs in Dolby Atmos™ is like swimming in music. You've never heard your tracks like this. Some people cry, most are simply amazed at what happens when you're engulfed in your own creation. Who knew that placing things around the room would have such an emotional effect, but it does!

The most common question I get asked is "What is Dolby Atmos™, and why do I need it?" Dolby Atmos™ is a way to listen to music in a speaker system arranged like a modern movie theatre, with speakers in the ceiling. The music immerses the listener in a way that stereo simply cannot do.

OK sure, but how do I hear it? Atmos works in headphones. Any headphones. You can stream your Atmos mixes directly from Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon HD, and soon to be others as well. Granted, you don't get the full effect as a room full of speakers, but with  Atmos's binaural encoding there's still the sense of things moving around and above you. There are Dolby equipped sound bars and devices like the Amazon Echo Studio that surround you in the room, Apple's new line-up of iPhones, iPads, and laptops all support Atmos. If your TV /receiver is Atmos compatible, the new format automatically adapts to ANY speaker configuration.  Atmos is now in cars. So yeah, you not only want it, you need it. And you'll want it done here. Dolby helped me set up the room at Studio 132, so you know will translate the best it can be.

Don't take my word for it- check out more info at Dolby.com

A History of BZ and Studio 132…

BZ Lewis grew up in his father's home studio in a small town in west Texas. He remembers being 7 years old and duplicating 1/4 inch tapes on an Ampex reel to reel machine for his father's daily syndicated radio program, 'The Sound of Texas'. It wasn't long before the studio/music bug crept into his life. About the same time, he started playing piano and later developed a love for guitar. He attended an audio engineering school in Waco, Texas and received his B.A. in music with an emphasis on classical guitar from the University of Texas at Austin where he was honored as one of the best guitarists in the state of Texas by Texas Beat Magazine.

He set out for California in '93 to work on a film that launched his career, and in '96 he started recording demos for singer/songwriters in a suburb of the Bay Area. The following year he opened STUDIO 132 in downtown San Francisco. After getting married and starting a family, he moved the studio - family in tow- to it's current location in Oakland, CA, where he has been the main engineer for decades. The current Oakland recording studio location was designed from the ground up with the help of Chips Davis, (Lucasfilm's Skywalker Ranch) and tuned by Bob Hodas- the room whisperer. In 2009 - just two years after building the studio- BZ won the first of 6 Emmys. Since then he's won Telly awards, a communicator award, and awards and nominations from the Independent Music Awards and the International Songwriting Awards. 2021 saw the emergence of Dolby Atmos, a new set of 12 speakers, and a re-tune of the room with the help of Sebastien Pallisso Poux from Dolby. Things just keep looking up for BZ at Studio 132.

Studio 132 is committed to the highest quality possible regardless of the size of the project. We specialize in getting the best performances from our musicians, singers, and VO artists for a dynamic performance, whatever the medium.
